Even the Jester Frowns Sometimes

Anyway, first piece I've finished on my new computer! This is one of my characters, Van. Even though the title sounds like an elaborate way to call him an idiot, it's more to say that even though he's usually one of the more cheerful characters, there are always some situations that are too difficult to smile through.

This took many hours and my sister actually told me some very interesting facts about jesters while I was working on this.

Traditionally speaking, the role of the jester was to serve as a counter-agent to the king.

In a royal court, only the jester was allowed to contest the king on his behaviors and decisions.

He acted as the fool, but his real role, disguised in life-saving comedy, was to comment on and correct the king's behavior.

The jester was essentially a moral police.
